What’s included in each plan?

Breeder Plan includes unlimited Full listings for the year, starting from your date of sign-up, along with a searchable directory breeder listing. The unlimited Full listings are designed to feature individual or very similar goats like siblings to allow you more time to focus on vetted leads by people looking to find based on those terms.

The Browser Plan is primarily for finding goats to build your herd with, but also has two Pay As You Go Listing options for those that need an occasional marketing option. A Basic listing including the goat’s breed, gender, location, up to 3 pictures, and a small description and the Full listing including every search term detail available to Breeders including up to 15 photos, a video embed and a small description.

What about a monthly option?

Caprine Sales is a breeder-focused platform and is designed to be primarily beneficial to breeders with herd numbers averaging around 10-20+ head with 10-40 kids born annually. Breeders are usually in it for the long haul and keep our breeds going, making the goat industry possible, so our base offer focuses on their needs with unlimited listings that go in-depth on registered breeds, along with the various programs offered by their respective breed associations.

A monthly plan adds admin work behind the scenes, or more work for breeders on the annual plan through 30-day listing limits. The details in our listings are above and beyond the other options in the market, and the cost is geared toward limiting expenses for dedicated breeders. The 120-day listing is in consideration of the average time it takes to sell a goat in the market for the vast majority of us. This timeline may change with this platform and have us reconsider a monthly option down the line.

How does this site benefit Breeders, Buyers, the Community, & the Public at-Large?

Breeders, buyers, the community, and the public at-large benefit in different ways.

Breeders have a dedicated and safe way to list their available goats and drive traffic to their online presence. As a new option in the market, the ROI for breeders currently is about supporting the idea for it to succeed versus a direct benefit in sales of goats or website views. As the idea gains momentum through awareness and social proof, the ROI will shift into sales and website traffic.

As mentioned above, the platform is designed to be primarily beneficial to breeders with herd numbers averaging around 10-20+ head, with 10-40 kids born annually, and this places around 5-35+ listings annually in the platform of varying degrees, depending on retention rates and herd phase. Obviously, it’s futile to try to predict an exact of anything with goats, but we can compare low-end averages in the market to see where the cost to join makes sense.

Low-end averages are $60 for a bottle baby buckling & $300 for a doeling. That averages $180 per goat. Most of us year over year have close to equal bucklings to doelings. 5hd is $900 in this scenario, and 6.67% listing fee on the total. Net is $840. If you increase to 10hd that gives us $1800 gross and a 3.34% listing fee. Net is $1740. This doesn’t factor in the return on a full-scale breeder directory included in these two scenarios.

In addition to the above, consideration must be given to the following conditions:

  • Algorithm Design & Restrictions: Social Media heavily restricts or bans animal sales, making posting high-risk to anyone involved in the activity. The algorithm also buries posts that are either over a certain time or that have not received engagement from the test audience. Rage bait is what “succeeds” in those spaces.
  • Consignment Auctions: Most auctions are in-person and high-risk. Costs are variable but generally stand around $8-15/head plus yardage fees. Some also add tag fees. A Percentage of the gross sale as commission, with a range from 3-15%, is possible instead of a per head fee. If the animal no sales, you still pay the commission. Consignment selling is one of the easiest ways to get left holding the bag. It has it’s uses, but should never be a standard option for a healthy market.
  • Targeted Audience: The platform connects sellers directly with high-intent livestock buyers rather than casual social media browsers. A healthy algorithm should show a page with 54K followers at roughly 2% engagement, getting 800-1200 likes, 40-100 comments, 50-150 shares, and, if utility-focused, 100-300 saves per post.
  • Time Savings: Small farms are generally short on time for digital marketing; the listings offer an efficient and streamlined way for your goats to get sold, while the searchable breeder directory provides a passively consistent way to find and learn about you and your operation.

Buyer benefits: Buyers mainly benefit from a direct source listing and finding exactly what they’re looking for through our hyper-specific search terms. There’s also access to our Pay As You Go listing options, allowing Buyers to still experience the full listing capabilities this site offers with no long-term commitment when it isn’t needed.

Community at-large: All of the resources, once pulled together, allow everyone from newbies to well-established breeders to know of the best of the best for their goats far earlier than most of us figure it out currently. Right now, we’re left to happen upon a random social media post or comment to tell us about a possible veterinarian or a favorite product.

Public at-large: The operations getting support through this project help create and maintain the necessary infrastructure for end consumers to choose us.
